QB Brock Purdy Thread

I don't care who starts next year, just gonna revel in the fact that we'll have Lance and Purdy on rookie deals for the next few years. Anyone truly paying attention to the NFL lately can see that as players continue getting stronger and faster, the key to building a championship now lies more in depth than overall talent. We probably won't be able to keep both beyond their rookie deals, so let's enjoy the position we're in while it lasts.

🥓 🥓 🥓 sizzle 🥓 🥓 🥓

Brock "I got the bacon" Purdy
If we look back at the Super Bowl against KC and the NFCCG against the Rams, we were just a play or two away from wins in both of those...and that was with Garoppolo.

Now we are seeing a more mobile QB in Purdy, who reads the defense quicker and throws at least as well as Jimmy if not better. Why should we not think we will do just a little better with Purdy?

one thing, Jimmy played better than the QBs ahead of him in the begining. 2nd he's only played 3 games, 3rd it's the playoffs which can turn men into mice

And you know what? You know Kyle learned from his usage of Trey. And he's going to continue to learn from Purdy. That QB room next year is going to be nuts!

Love the objectivity!

To the bold, Jimmy and the entire team played well through 3Q's. The 2nd half of the 4Q, everything changed. Great point.

1. The narrative was about Jimmy's lack of making a single play or two as the reason we didn't win both of those games. Some here are now saying Purdy is making plays JG cannot. Hence, a + for BP.

2. I am not buying the "only played 3 games" narrative. We've been through all his college experience and have now seen it work at a level that pro-observers are saying looks like a vet.

3. Purdy has now played and won 3 games that had the same or similar pressure levels of playoff games, at least in the Wild Card rounds...and he's been a baller in each.
Heaven help me for posting a hypothetical but... Even if Purdy wins the Superbowl, could see a situation where next year he is initally declared the starter but Lance is given some game time with a combination of reasoning such as... QBs get injured... they are both very young so we need to explore their potential... it is harder for defenses to plan... we can financially afford it which never happens... etc...

That's how Kyle started off Lance's rookie year if memory serves. To dj43's point... If 2nd year Brock is a bit-better-Garoppolo could pretty easily see that bit of history repeating.

Looks like he has a really weak arm lol

My only issue with a 3 man race is that none of them will get adequate reps in OTA's/TC.

Man, all 3 guys in open competion to start? Kyle nearly blew a gasket with Trey/Jimmy with all the media questions. I don't see it.

On the flip side, if it somehow worked out like that, Kyle might not give af too much because he simply wants the best QB room he can get. And that mentality saved this season.

I don't see there being a competition at all next season. Lance will named starter by default, with Purdy backing him up.

No matter what?

If Purdy ends the season playing well and showing efficiency moving the offense then an open competition is the way to go imo. If Lance is out there making bonehead reads, the vets on the team will be wondering why they have to watch this while a better QB is sitting on the bench. Trent Williams ain't got time for that.

Right, and as fans we should all want the best QB leading this team. I don't think Brock will beat Trey in an open comp, but if he really is better then he's the guy I want starting. I trust Kyle to put the best guy out there.

Outside of the fact we spent a bunch of picks to get Lance, what has he done or shown where he deserves or is entitled to a chance? I'm not blaming him for this situation and I think he's a wonderful kid with tons of potential, but I haven't seen him show much ability to be able to unlock it. He is big and fast but idk if I consider him "mobile", he isn't quick or agile.

im not worried about a QB competition and if Lance is better, he should start. Overall in my eyes, Lance has shown next to nothing during his time here that tells me he is going to be a great quarterback - so I don't think Lance currently stands a chance to win an open qb competition vs Purdy - not with what Purdy is doing, and you'd have to think he is only going to get better?

It's a tricky situation, especially if Purdy ends this season looking efficient while sprinkling in some playmaking ability. I am a believer that SB windows are short, especially on a team where the QB is not the focal point of the offense/team. I would be willing to take some lumps to let Lance develop but we don't know how long that will take. Is it a one year thing? Is it a 6 game "tryout" during the 2023 season to see how quickly Lance progresses while knowing they have Purdy in their back pocket?

I no longer care where each QB was selected. Brock is showing he can operate this offense, and maximize the result on some plays - that was the missing element with Jimmy imo. This team has too many playmakers in their prime to dick around and see if a project QB is the long term answer when they need an answer at QB right now. I'll trust Kyle to make the right call since he is in the meeting rooms with these guys. I think he is putting more weight on "win now" than "build for the future".

Perfectly said. A great logical post.
Maybe, just maybe ...we got a baby Steve Young in BCB
